STRESS RELIEF
Stress
I
hear children saying,
"I'll take care of Mom or Dad."
My
response is always,
"I
know you will. I want to talk to you about
a way you can do it longer and better."
Children
don't want to take care of their parents...
-
They
will because they love their parents and
are worried about their safety.
-
LTCi
will not replace what families do. It
allows them to do it longer and better
by bringing in care (formal or informal)
to pay for the types of assistance they
find the most embarrassing and time consuming.
-
LTCi
allows them to have a life while honoring
their promise to take care of their parents.
Nursing
home placement is rarely a first choice.
The individual goes not when he should,
but when the caregiver gets so sick that
the choice is taken out of her hands by
the children who are worried for her health...
...and
making a placement
breaks your heart...
The
tears have finally arrived. I feel like
he's being drugged and locked away and I
am powerless. I guess I must be in denial,
but I just can't see him in the Alzheimer's
ward. It's just so heart wrenching. When
I left the hospital he came out of his room
and asked if he could come with me.
I
tried to explain that he had to stay until
the doctor said he could leave. He then
followed me to the elevator (the aide tagging
along) and rode down with me. I am just
so sad. I don't know what to do. I just
can't bear the thought of him being admitted
to a nursing home. I wish there as a pill
I could give him right now to end it all.
